Until 2007, the Red Savina chilli held the record as the world's hottest chilli until it was blasted from its 580,000SCU pedestal by a lesser-known north Indian pod, the Bhut Jolokia, incredibly rating 1,041,427SHU. Since then a number of chillies have emerged around the world rating over a Megascoville, including some very rare varieties.

Carolina Reaper x 6 Seeds - Current holder of the Guinnes Book of Records title of World's Hottest Chilli with an official heat rating of 1,569,300SHU, reaching highs of over 2.2 million. Bred by Ed Currie of the Puckerbutt Pepper Company, reputedly bred from a Pakastani Naga and a Red Habanero from the Caribbean island of St Vincent. The chilli was for a long time known as HP22PB, or Higher Power Pot 22, Plant B.

Butch T Trinidad Scorpion x 6 Seeds- Just one look at the Trinidad Scorpion and you know its going to be a seriously hot chilli. From its habanero-shaped top to the kick of its scorpion tail, this chilli means business. Many people reckon that it exceeds the Bhut Jolokia in heat but in fact its Scoville Heat rating has yet to be confirmed. Unofficially, it hovers around the Megascoville mark but the Butch T strain featured in the Guinness Book of Records with a whopping 1.4 million Scoville units.

Bhut Jolokia x 6 Seeds- A firm favourite amongst chilli heads. Prized not only for its immense heat but also its distinctive citrus tang. The Bhut featured in the Guinness Book of Records as World's Hottest Chilli 2007-2011 before being toppled by the Infinity, Naga Viper and Butch T Scorpion in quick succession.

This is a natural variant of the Bhut Jolokia that comes in a gorgeous deep chocolatey colour. No, it doesn't taste anything like the sweet snack but has a fresh flavour with a serious kick to it!

Pods ripen from lime green to a gorgeous rich chocolate colour. The plant seems to produce marginally less pods than its red counterpart but some exceptionally large pods. Pods are extreme but not quite as hot as the red variant.

Superhot Fire Chilli. World's Hottest Chilli at over 2,000,000SHU+ The Moruga is thought to be a cross strain of the Trinidad Scorpion and Red Savina chilli (once the hottest chilli in the world until it lost its crown to the mighty Bhut).

This chilli can certainly hold its own against the heavy-weights of the chilli world, one strain testing at over 2 million SHU. This chilli looks a little like a Scotch Bonnet with the tell tell pimples of the Naga. A very rare chilli and evilly hot!

Wraith Chilli Seeds

Wraith is a newly-bred, supercharged superhot. It's a good choice if you like seriously hot chillies but don't have much space as it's a bushy, compact plant that doesn't compromise on pod production. In fact, the hot pods can be picked by the handful come late summer.Wraith's compact size means it gets to flowering and fruiting a long time before other chinense plants and you can literally gather handfuls of pods before your other superhots.
